Mr. Chan Bing Fai

Former school teacher, Headmaster and educational technologist

Lynn Wong's latest book is SMILE though your heart is ACHING. This is a much awaited book, a worthy sequel to her first book "As Time Goes By" published five years ago. Both her books are generally about life and living. They are not autobiographies.

Her first book is centred more on childhood memories and growing up pains based more on events, observations and her responses and reactions to them, with the innocence of a child. Her latest book, however, is about the adult world with its ups and downs.

It is also about fighting corporate battles.

The words she has chosen carry her thoughts succinctly. They are warm and friendly without being pretentious. The topics included in both her books cover a broad spectrum of subjects and events. Some are more hilarious and many are focused on a more serious note.

Her approach to life is spontaneous, governed by prudence and common sense. It appears lighthearted and easy. Being a keen observer, even trifles, will not escape her scrutiny. Her response to these is largely based on common sense and knowledge; laced with wisdom.

Her thoughts flow through smoothly from one idea to another and the transition is gentle, methodical, tidy and logical. Lynn's philosophy appears simple and yet very profound and thoughtful; gracious and tinged with a lot of human skills and understanding.

Her books are very personal and subjective; unique, highly perceptive, intimate and reflective. I have enjoyed reading both her books and excitedly look forward to her next one which I hope will not take too long to come to fruition.

Her artist -illustrator- is equally talented in bringing out the many encounters and experiences of the author through her drawings; depicting expressions, moods and emotions subtly and with precision. Congratulations to both of you for complementing each other perfectly!

The typography and layout is attractive and designed for easy reading. The book is available in major bookstores.

It is priced at RM27.90.

STAY ALIVE

The School of Hard Knocks gives the kind of education that normal learning institutions omit. Among other survival skills the School subscribes to "train hard, master your moves, fair play, stay in the ring, fight like a champion and don't ever give up before time's out!"
On occasions when we're knocked down it's okay to stay in our safe corner but only long enough to take a breather, plaster the wounds, quickly recharge and then bounce back up.
Fighting the good fight doesn't mean we have to win all the time. In the game of life there will always be losses. If in the process we lose all that we despise about ourselves - our ego, our self-centredness, hypocrisy, bitterness, anger and all the negative traits that dominate and enslave us - then we truly are the victors.
Having said all that, in contrast, there are moments when all we can manage is breathe and stay alive. And to that I say Bravo ...just stay alive!

GOOD FRIDAY

I am trusting You, God, with all my heart, and not trying to figure out everything with my own understanding. I give You credit in all I do, so You are now directing my paths. Thank you, God. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
We are loved with the Greatest Love of all.
Blessed Good Friday, everyone.

STUBBORN LOVE

Nana in love .. and what an exciting, exhilarating, empowering and all encompassing feeling.
It was stubborn, sacrificial and crazy love that won my heart; brought me to my knees; buried my past; wiped away all my sins; secured my future and gave hope to the present.
Who am I that You should love me so completely; so unconditionally. My God, my God ...if you are all I have, you are all I need.

GYM

Nana in the gym!
Exercise is compulsory for good health! No substitute and no shortcut. I used to be an athlete but dropped out completely from sports after leaving school! That was a hundred years ago!
Going back to basic exercise. Oh yes, it's better late than never.
Happy again ...

GOOD SAMARITAN

We're thankful for people who would stick their necks out for us even though they are not obliged to do so. By the same token we offer help to others whenever we can, even to those who are undeserving.
Service above self may not be the in-thing but it still works to bring a little measure of joy, hope, comfort and assurance to those needy ones. Your kind deeds will not go unnoticed...bless you.

ETERNAL VALUE

Possessions do not make us rich.
Peace of mind, purposeful living, pursuit of deeper spiritual awareness and practical application of timeless truths lend greater meaning to a life of lasting prosperity ...

FILTER

The person(s) who designed this coffee filter is after my own heart! Simple to use, fuss free, easy to dispose and reasonably priced.
With this find, I now get to enjoy home 'brewed' illy and Lavazza coffee minus the 'hassle.'

Happy again!

DOCTORATE

The Admission Director of a highly reputable university in Europe challenged me to pursue a Doctorate in Psychology, which is one of my favorite subjects. Imagine Me, going back to school..?..what a far fetched idea! Attend classes ...studies...research...thick books...exams...thesis ....UGHHH!!
Then again, why not!
Dr. Lynn Wong does have a good nice ring to it !!

GOD'S GRACE

Seven years have passed since I was operated on to remove a nasty tumour in my brain. The surgeons had warned that any one or more of the below could happen:
1. I could die
2. Lose my memory
3. Grow blind
4. Vegetate - restricted mobility
5. Be totally dependent on drugs
Thank God none of the above applied in my case! I admit occasionally I do forget where I put the keys to the car and forget my FB password! Otherwise, I'm very okay.
Doctors are smart and indispensable.
We cannot do without them. However doctors can also be wrong some times. I trust in God and believe that He has the last say over my life. It is not finished until He says 'it is finished.' Then I'm done and ready to go.

Puji Tuhan!

QUIET TIME

An hour of contentment. A quiet moment of peace and relaxation. Early in the morning when the coffee is hot and everyone is asleep. My alone time when I lose myself ... to dream dreams and see visions.
My best hour of the morning.

REKINDLED PASSION

Wide-eyed wonder is when a stranger (at church) about my age, approaches me shyly; reaches out for a hug and starts to profusely thank me for giving her back her dreams!
Face flushed, excitement in every word, she explained how she had always wanted to be a writer but never got round to seriously pursue her ambition.
After hearing my testimony on how my own dream of becoming a author materialized with two published books AS TIME GOES BY and SMILE THOUGH YOUR HEART IS ACHING, she felt a deep stirring in her heart. She knew her life long dream that had laid dormant was awakened.  With her joy rekindled, passion roused, she cannot wait to start writing again.
Indeed we are so privileged and loved -- to be chased down -- by a God who simply wouldn't let us let go of our destiny.
Remarkable!

REMARKABLE

Once upon a time she was the thorn in his flesh. He was her nightmare!
Today he is seeing her as the jewel in the crown while she acknowledges him as her knight in shining armor, minus the white horse!
It's remarkable how God can take two 'miserable, misfitted and malfunctioned individuals and mold them to be who He had, from the beginning, made them to be.
Who knows the full mystery of God's plan? No one!
But this I'm sure ... His plan and purpose for His children are perfect.
Simply remarkable.
